Godly Play
Children in kindergarten through grade 3 are invited to take part in our Montessori-based Sunday School curriculum, Godly Play. In this program, children experience the scriptures through storytelling, using a variety of figurines, models and simple "sets." Guided by an adult storyteller, children are encouraged to immerse themselves in biblical stories and are free to wonder and respond creatively.
Godly Play meets from 9:00 to 10:00 AM on Sundays throughout the school year. Children are grouped by age. One group is for kindergartners and first graders. The other is for second- and third-graders.
For more information about Godly Play, please contact Rev. Sandi Michels at 873-4377.
Youth Education
St. Francis Youth Group is made of young people of the parish in grades 7 through 12. We meet several times monthly for fellowship and discipleship. The youth group is an asset to the life of the parish, with its service projects for the community and the world, its care for the children of the parish in Sunday Friends (our nursery program), Vacation Bible School, and the Shrove Tuesday Carnival, and its enthusiasm for the church family. For the youth, the highlight of each year is the annual mission trip in the summer, when the youth depart for a week to serve others around the nation. Past mission trips have included work on a Native American reservation in Navajoland, caring for the poor in Washington, DC, and helping with rebuilding and relief efforts in New Orleans.
Adult Education
Opportunities to think, learn, inquire and grow are important not only to the youth at St. Francis, but for adults as well. For this reason, several education options are available for interested adults. On Sunday mornings at 9 AM, adults may attend Kerygma, a year-long, structured Bible study. Alternatively, they may participate in Adult Forum, in which current events and religious topics are discussed in an informal setting. Kerygma meets in the parlor, and Adult Forum meets in the Parish Hall.
Adult education opportunities are available at other times as well. A separate Keryma group meets on Thursday mornings at 10 AM in the parlor. Our Vacation Bible School and many workshops are intergenerational at St. Francis, offering the chance for all ages to learn and grow together.
