Lee Barlow has served as the organist and choirmaster at St. Francis Episcopal Church for 11 years. He studied organ and church music under Mr. Donald D. Kilmer at Millsaps College in Jackson, Mississippi. During his Millsaps tenure he accompanied the Millsaps Troubadors, the Millsaps Singers, and various voice students. He won 1st place in the MMTA Freshman/Sophomore organ division in 1983, and represented the Jackson chapter of the AGO in the regional Young Organists Competition in 1985. On Palm Sunday 1983, as he was on his way to the Methodist church, his bike accidently pedaled down the street on which his organ teacher's Episcopal church resided. The rest was history: he became a die-hard Episcopalian in June 1985. He graduated in 1986, receiving both the Bachelor of Music in Organ Performance, and the Millsaps Senior Music Award.
Lee continued organ studies under Dr. Larry Smith at Indiana University in Bloomington, Indiana. He also sang in the Trinity Episcopal Church, Bloomington, choir under the direction of Marilyn Keiser. He earned the Master of Music in Organ Performance with a cognate in early music, and was also awarded the Performer's Certificate.
In addition to serving our parish, Lee serves as organist and choirmaster for the St. John Bosco Latin Mass (Tridentine) Community in Carmel, and as assistant organist at St. Luke Catholic Church in Indianapolis. He has taught on the faculty for the annual Indianapolis Student Organ Encounter since 2003. Additionally, he teaches private piano lessons, and was thrilled that the three students he entered into the National Piano Playing Auditions in June 2010 all ranked Superior or Superior-Plus. He is a member of the Association of Anglican Musicians, the American Guild of Organists, and the National Guild of Piano Teachers.
